Donald A. Shapiro
Don primarily handles transactional matters for the firm and works on corporate, real estate, contract, finance and merger/acquisition transactions arising in the context of the estate planning, estate administration and asset protection aspects of the firm’s practice.
Don was born in 1951 in Dallas, Texas, where he lived through his graduation from high school in 1969. Don then entered the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and received a B.S. in Economics, with honors, in December 1972. He spent his junior year in college studying at the London School of Economics in London, England. Don attended law school at the University of California at Berkeley where he received his J.D. in May 1976.
Upon graduation from law school, Don joined the law firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld in Dallas, Texas, where he primarily handled secured lending and real estate matters for more than 14 years (the last 8 of which he was a Partner at the firm). Don left Akin Gump in 1991 and spent the next 13 years practicing law in house at Hollywood Casino Corporation where he was Vice President and Deputy General Counsel and primarily handled corporate, real estate, development, finance, regulatory and contract matters and managed litigation.
After the sale of Hollywood, Don joined ACE Cash Express, Inc. as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel in 2004 and spent the next 4 years at ACE specializing in acquisition, real estate, contract and corporate matters and managing litigation. When he is not practicing law, Don spends as much time as he can with his 2 adult children and 3 grandchildren. He also enjoys reading, doing crossword puzzles, walking and watching sports.
